The Southern Tier Junior Bassmasters traded boats and fishing poles for bicycles, Saturday, July 25th, 1998, in the 4th annual St. Jude Hospital "Bike-A-Thon", held in Bolivar, New York.
The junior bassmasters made up six of the twenty kids that rode in the event to raise
money for
St. Jude Children's Research Hopital, to help in the fight against catastrophic
childhood diseases such as cancer.
The kids went out in the days and weeks preceeding the event to secure sponsors. These generous people, sponsor the kids for varying amounts for them to ride in the "Bike-A-Thon". That money is then collected after the completion of the event and turned over to the event's coordinator. The junior bassmasters, as a group, contributed $297 toward the total of over $1,800 raised by the entire event.
