If you were a 15 year old on the first Saturday morning of summer vacation where would you be? At home, in bed asleep you say? Well at least one wasn't. Bobby Elliott, a sophomore to be at Olean High School was cruising the waters of Cayuga Lake in search of that illusive creature called a bass. By the end of the day, which for him started at 4:30am, he had 5 smallmouth bass in the livewell that weighed 6 lbs 7 oz earning him a spot on the New York State B.A.S.S. Federation Jr. Bassmasters State Team. The tournament, The Jr. Mr./Miss B.A.S.S. Tournament was held on Cayuga Lake at Taughannock Falls State Park Saturday June 25th. The top six finishers move on as ateam to represent New York State at the Nationals on July 29th at the Connecticut Jr. State Invitational Tournament on the Connecticut River at Haddam. The competition was for boys and girls 11-16 years of age. Bobby, the son of Lori and Bob Elliott of Olean, is a member of the Southern Tier Jr. Bassmasters and is their tournament director. "Bobby is a leader and an inspiration" says senior president Ted Barth. "He's always positive and does his best, setting an example for others." Bobby credits his dad for much of his success. "If we hadn't pre-fished the day before I don't think I would have done that good" he stated. How about you.........Did you sleep in? |
