Rice saves his best for last

Sept. 27, 2008 - On a day that seemed not to be a good one based on his practice day, on a lake where he’s never done well Kerry Rice took the day, the tournament and the season by storm. His 5 fish limit of Lake Erie smallmouth weighing a career best, 18.95 pounds put him in the winner’s circle of the Southern Tier Bassmasters final point’s tournament, Saturday September 27,

Along with the winning plaque he won $206.10 and with the 100 points that go with first place Kerry became the 10th different Angler of the Year in the club’s 11 year history.

Especially impressive was that his catch would not have been in by the 3:15 PM deadline had it not been for fellow competitor Ted Barth who brought Kerry and his catch back from his broken down boat along the Canadian border. At the start of the day Ted was in second place in the AOY race.

Finishing second with a limit weighing 16.36 pounds, anchored by the 5.62 pound tournament lunker was Tim Creighton. His winnings totaled $240.95. Third place went to Kevin Kuhn with 15.94 pounds. He took home $74.43. Rounding out the top four was Harry Stringfellow with 15.80 pounds.
